Returning to Running (Part 4)

General Leg strength is pertinent to start to run -

this seems like a “duh” moment but we are so eager to get back at it we don’t often think about the amount of down time we have had. Our muscles need training to regain that neural connection and overall need some assistance before we jump back into the miles!

The Guidelines have suggested that we assess general leg strength and test in a few areas. I have created a video to demonstrate. The break down is…

20 of each:

  • Single leg calf raise

  • Single leg bridge

  • Single leg sit to stand

  • Side lying abduction

As a therapist, we are also encouraged to assess strength to all hip muscles including the abductors, adductors, flexors, extensors and rotators.

Enjoy!
