  • postpartum recovery (feel like you are able to gain control of your body again)

  • stress incontinence (urine leakage with cough, sneeze and/or exercise)

  • pelvic pain/bladder irritation/intersticial cystitis (overactive bladder or belly pain)

  • organ prolapse (feeling of heaviness or something feels like its falling out)

  • painful intercourse (dyspareunia) (unable to orgasm or pain with sex)

  • diastasis recti abdominis - abdominal muscle separation (core weakness)

  • low back pain and pelvic girdle pain (pain in pubic bone, inner thighs, or low back/buttock)

  • sacroiliac joint dysfunction (SI joint pain)

  • sciatica (numbness and tingling to leg/hip)

How do I know if I need Pelvic Floor Physical therapy?

What to expect with women’s health Physical therapy?

With the additional education and certifications to be qualified as a Women’s Health Physical Therapist, we are trained to assess the pelvic floor muscles. Your therapist will palpate (feel) with her finger whether your muscles are able to contract, hold, and relax. Sometimes our muscles are strong but they are not in sync with the body and are acting in an uncoordinated way. Your therapist can help you identify the issue and give you a program for home.

We will also assess mobility of the lumbar spine, hips, scars, abdominal fascial, visceral mobility, postural control, as well as how you breathe, move and lift. If tight muscles, joints or fascia are found, hands-on release techniques may be performed to help alleviate pain and improve function. Trigger point dry needling may be utilized as well. We will also talk to you about bowel, bladder and sexual function as they pertain to your issues.

Dry Needling

Trigger Point Dry Needling is a way to release tension, improve blood flow, and improve movement utilizing a monofilament needle inserted into the tissue. The results are typically immediately seen and with proper training, pain and dysfunction may never return. Commonly used to reduce shoulder pain, hip pain, low back pain, headaches and common running or overuse injuries.
