Productivity Post

Breaking up the mama talk for some generalized health talk today.

We are now sitting more than ever!

A lot of us are stuck at desks at home and are note even forced to get up to shower if we choose not to - some of us can just grab a new set of jammies and get behind the computer!

But here are FIVE ways know to be more productive:

1.

Get ready even when you don’t have to - we are more productive when we get up and get moving! I love to put on my leggings and T-shirt or shorts but honestly it’s like a brain chemical thing to put on those nicer clothes and do my make up and hair. It’s like hitting that extra “go” button and my day just gets a little more streamlined.

2.

Exercise at least 30 min a day: everyone says this…we all know this…but the best thing to do is find something you love to do and do it. Honestly, my favorite thing lately has been rollerblading. Yep…i said it. I did a rotation for grad school in Arkansas close Harding and they had the best greenway trial. I can’t tell you how many miles I skated during those couple months. Just get your heart rate up. Get your bones and muscles moving. I have a few YouTube videos I can send if you want a couple.

3.

Drink Water: at least 2L a day or some say half your body weight in ounces of water (say you weigh 150 pounds - you need 75 ml of water).

My friend Grace who’s a registered dietician always says - the best water is the water you’ll drink….so whether its sparkling, fruit added, or just plan ol’ water - something is better than nothing.

And - it may make you go pee more at the beginning but your bladder will become accustomed and your body will not flush it out as quickly allowing you to hold it the typical 2-4 hours we should be able to (heheh…shameless Pelvic floor plug…). Also it helps flush out some of the lymphatics and I promise your skin, energy and generalized wellbeing will improve.

4.

Get off social media - if you are having a hard time sleeping at night thus feeling fatigued all day and less productive - it is recommended that at least 2 hours before bed, you turn off any blue lights - that means phones and TV. Fortunately for those of us who have to do work when out kids go to bed, they do have blue light blocking glasses. Not sure on the efficacy on those but they are available.

5.

Practice gratitude - Find things everyday to be thankful for. In a time of continued uncertainty and he-said/she-said society, its great to become more grounded in truths and what you are thankful for…write down 3 every day. One of my favorite ways to do this is when I’m stretching and thinking about my day. Here are a few stretches you can do with a simple towel roll to get you started

Let me know how these go! Often we know what we need to do but we need to be reminded. Or have a plan laid out.

I encourage my clients to pick ONE thing they think that they can do at least 80% of the time for 2 weeks…once that gets easy…add another habit.

The last thing we need is more overwhelm :)
